The story opens with a major tragedy in Kyla's life. Her grandmother, Nora - her only caregiver - is pronounced dead. Kindly neighbours take her in but for days Kyla lives in a haze, trying to come to terms with the loss. And when her mother's sister turns up to take her back to her apartment in Wellington, Kyla is upset at the thought of leaving the only home she's ever known and of living with an aunt she thinks hated her grandmother. But Kyla comes to understand that she hasn't been told the whole truth...and that home can be anywhere you're wanted.
A totally believable read that tugs at the heart and keeps you totally engrossed as the truth of the family history is slowly revealed.
